Wishing your clients, customers, friends and relatives in Australia and New Zealand a happy first day of summer on December 1st ✔️
Yes, that's right, it's not enough having the seasons the other way around, Australia and New Zealand are among a handful of countries worldwide where the seasons start on the 1st of the month (the metrological calendar) and not on the equinoxes or solstices (the astronomical calendar).
That means in Australia 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿...
🍂 Autumn starts on March 1st and ends on May 31st
🌧️ Winter starts on June 1st and ends on August 31st
🌻 Spring starts on September 1st and ends on November 30th
☀️ Summer starts on December 1st and ends on February 28th/29th
And guess what? Most Aussies and Kiwis are shocked and bewildered when they find out that most of the rest of the world start seasons around the 21st/22nd of the month 🤯
Now let's complicate this more...
🌴 Not all of Australia has four seasons – the tropical northern half of Australia has just two seasons:
⛈️ the Wet (October/November to March/April)
and
🔆 the Dry (March/April to October/November).
💡 So keep these details in mind when talking seasons with Aussies and Kiwis.
💡 And Aussies and Kiwis, you have to wait 3 weeks before wishing most of the rest of world a happy start to a season.
