What was the mood like in both Sydney and London before the start of their respective Olympic Games in 2000 and 2012? 😐
That it was going to be a huge calamity 🆘.
Nothing will go to plan, everything will fall apart, gridlock on the roads and the transport system will collapse, so avoid going out at all costs! 🚨
📺 The final episode of the second season of the Australian comedy series The Games, a mockumentary satirising the corruption, incompetence and cronyism Australians associate their officials with when it comes to organising huge events such as the Olympics, and aired just days before the start of the 2000 Olympics, captured this overriding feeling of impending doom perfectly.
And in a major case of déjà vu, the mood from Paris 🇫🇷 in the lead-up to the Olympics has been exactly the same.
🤔 So how did things turn out with Sydney 2000 and London 2012? Did it all end in disaster?
No, everything worked out just fine, thanks 👍.
Actually, a little too good, in that so many locals were avoiding going on the roads or into the city centre that in both Sydney and London, the streets were eerily quiet (already the case in Paris). People in both cities were later saying that it was the best time to drive or catch transport.
So Paris, I'm sure you're going to ace this! 🤩
💡 This is something that we all could do with some reminding – why worry about the worst when everything could turn out to be the best. So let's cheer up as the worst may never happen.
* OK, so Atlanta and Athens (in the long-run) are exceptions. A cousin of mine actually made a mint working in the construction of the Athens Olympics venues. A year before the event, he was telling me that he wouldn't sit in any of the venues 😳
